Buffet’s Weekly Picks (April 15th - April 21st)

Bagels, country marts, and dogs - another winning combo

We’re back after another great weekend! And, we bring things to do. We hope you had a good weekend & for those of you who went to Coachella Weekend 1 … we’re jealous. For those going this weekend, we hope it’s just as good, if not better, than last weekend!

We’ve got 70s all this week and into the weekend but strange morning fog. Make sure to pay close attention while heading to these picks we have for you!

Our Culinary Pick: Layla Bagels

Buffet's Weekly Picks - April 15 -21
Absolutely stunning sandwiches from Layla Bagels.

Description: A specialty bagel shop located in Santa Monica with a myriad of delightful bagel sandwich combinations. Has the essentials: delicious bagel sammies, great lattes, and instagrammable presentation.

Why We Like It: If you don’t like a good B.E.C., I don’t know if any of our future culinary picks are for you. Just joking, but seriously our food tastes may be too different to overcome. Anyway, whether it’s the Spicy B.E.C. (delish) or the Pre-Jam or really anything else on the menu – whatever you pick you’ll be happy. Especially when you see how aesthetically pleasing your sandwich is. On top of that, grabbing a latte to go with your breakfast bagel sandwich is the way to go at Layla – they have a great list of coffee and tea-based drinks, coffee specials, and also make their syrups in-house! And, if you’re worried about a line, they do online orders M-F.

Final Thoughts: From savory to sweet, they have something we’re sure you’ll like. Unless, you don’t like bagels which is fine (I guess) because they have non-bagel menu items plus coffee, teas, and juices! From picture-worthy food to hit-after-hit listed on their menu, next time you’re in Santa Monica around lunchtime, you know where to go.

Our Activity Pick: Brentwood Country Mart

Buffet's Weekly Picks - April 15 -21
A throwback pic of Brentwood Country Mart.

Description: Since 1948, this Santa Monica mart has boasted shops, dining, and community in an early American red barn structure. With brands like goop to local independent businesses, Brentwood Country Mart provides a vintage experience mixed with modern luxuries.

Why We Like It: We’re fans of having somewhere fun to peruse while chatting with friends and a normal shopping center can be so boring and devoid of personality. The Brentwood Country Mart is neither of those things, with its varied selection of all-Americanesque dining options and range of luxury to local shops. On top of it, if you’re simply a fan of an aesthetic or the 1950s or both, you’ll be more pleased than a peach with what this mart has to offer. Additionally, Brentwood regularly holds book signings that bring the reading community together.

Final Thoughts: If you’re looking for a relaxing way to spend the weekend, consider strolling around this 1950s shopping mart with friends before eating a vegetarian burger at Barney’s Burgers or real BBQ from Riddi Chick BBQ then washing it down with maltshake from Sweet Rose. Or, swing by the next time your favorite author is signing their latest release!

Our Event Pick: Wiggle Waggle Walk & Run

Burgers, beach, and EDM - BWP April 22nd - 28th
Participants from last year's Wiggle Waggle Walk & Run and their four-legged friend.

Description: The Pasadena Humane’s fundraiser 5k event to raise funds for thousands of furry friends and their care. Held at Brookside Park at the Rose Bowl from 8 – 11 am, April 21st! In addition, there will be a Vendor Fair, Agility Course, food trucks and doggy costume contest!

Why We Like It: When something has cute dogs involved, it’s hard not to like it. In addition, it’s some exercise for a great cause, so we like it even more! But for those of you who think people who run for fun are strange and don’t have a “fur baby”, it is still a great slice of the LA community demonstrating their passion for their furry loved ones. Along with good food and interesting vendors, it will be worth a stroll with some coffee, a friend, and their dog.

Things to Keep in Mind: This is a 5k you can run or walk in! There is a registration fee of $50 to participate in the race and all proceeds go to taking care of animals in different capacities. However, you can walk or run for free, you will just not be part of the race! If you’re looking to give money without running (totally understand), that is also an option through their website!

Final Thoughts: If you have a dog and either love running with them or putting them in cute costumes or both, definitely consider going in the name of helping other animals! We think this is a great opportunity to meet some dog-loving members of the LA community.

Enjoy the warm weather this weekend by having a beautiful bagel sandwich by the beach or petting some dogs after walking a 5k for a great cause! As always, be sure to check back here next week for another round of our top picks and download Buffet from the App Store if you’re looking for a person to try our picks with!
