Buffet’s Weekly Picks - LA (April 1st - April 7th)

Welcome back to our weekly picks! We hope you had a great weekend and are looking forward to some fun suggestions this week!

For weather this week, we’re looking at some scattered thunderstorms Friday before mid 60s for the weekend. Look forward to the May flowers following these April showers.

Our Culinary Pick: Community Goods

Community Goods interior
The minimalist yet warm interior of Community Goods.

Description: A cute and minimalist cafe known for their lattes, breakfast sliders, and overall aesthetic. With a really simple and paired down menu, Community Goods is still able to satisfy and impress cafe goers. Definitely worth the wait (according to most people, Justin Bieber included)!

Why We Like It: Community Goods does the “minimalist” aesthetic well. The menu only has a few items but they’re all great choices. They don’t rely on vibes alone to pull in their customers. Additionally, the warm wooden furniture and white walls helps you focus on the food while enjoying a nice morning in LA.

Things to Keep in Mind: You can tell how good this place is from the wait it can accrue. If you’re looking for something quick and easy, this might not be the right choice for you. While simple, its popularity has led to extensive wait times. This is best for a lazy morning with someone you don’t mind chatting with for a while.

Pro-tip from us: Skip the line and order 30 mins in advance on your phone.

Final Thoughts: If you’re a fan of taking pics of your treats and enjoying the mood in a cafe, Community Goods is the place for you. You’ll be able to satisfy your eyes and your stomach no matter what you get off their little menu

Our Activity Pick: Made on Market Street, Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibit at Gagosian

Jean-Michel Basquiat
Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960 - 1988)

Description: Calling all art buffs! Nearly thirty of the renowned American-artist’s work will be featured at Gagosian from March 7 – June 1. Known for his neo-expressionist work and being tied to the NYC art scene in the 80s, Jean-Michel Basquiat spent time creating close to a hundred paintings in Venice, CA from 1982 – 1984.

Why We Like It: With Basquiat’s influence on art, culture, and society during his life and after, we think it’s a great opportunity to learn more about him if you are not yet acquainted with his work. For those of you who are, I’m sure we don’t need to sell this opportunity to you. And, you can go for free! All around a great option for anyone interested in the arts.

Final Thoughts: Artists and the public alike will enjoy the colorful and interesting work of Jean-Michel Basquiat. This activity is perfect for introspective friends, a cerebral date, or a chill afternoon! Definitely worth catching before it’s gone.

Our Event Pick: Gnocchi Making DJ Party at the Rose Room

Gnocchi Making DJ Party
Make gnocchi while making friends and memories at this party!

Description: Cancel your brunch plans this Saturday, we’ve got something you have to try! On April 6th from 1 – 4 PM, the Rose Room will be having a Gnocchi Making DJ Party. Carbs, wine, and music? What more could you ask for?

Why We Like It: Normal parties are great. But, doing a fun and productive activity while you drink, mingle, and dance to music? It’s perfect for all you work-hard-play-hard people out there (us included)! Jokes aside, this party includes an open wine bar, learning how to make gnocchi by hand, specialty apps, great music, and good company. We believe this is a winning combination for anyone’s Saturday afternoon.

Things to Keep in Mind: All that fun does come at a cost. At $125 per head, this isn’t the party for everyone. But it makes sense considering the open wine bar, the activity, food, 3 hour-period, and entertainment. The pasta fans among you guys will understand.

Final Thoughts: Fans of bottomless brunch and Italian food, unite! A perfect Saturday get together for wine and pasta lovers while learning (and possibly forgetting*) the art of gnocchi making. Make sure to get tickets now if you’re interested before they sell out! *(Drink responsibly!)

Get ready for another great week in LA! With spring rolling in, take advantage of the warmer weather and have fun getting matcha lattes, experiencing art and history, or making pasta this week!
